Some Ground Rules
Okay, we're here. I finally wrote something. Giving time to this was so much easier before having a toddler, but I'm trying to get away from excuses like that these days. So let me set out a couple of expectations here:
- I'm not trying to be a blogger. I've got so much respect for bloggers that have created successful businesses online through this medium. It has got to take so much work. I'm not here for that. I'd love to write a book someday and I'm scared silly that I'll sit down to write in 20-30 years and realize I haven't a thing to say because I haven't practiced sharing my thoughts like this. I'm just trying to keep the pencil sharp (well, once I've got it a little sharper. It's been a few years).
- This is not going to be as focused or organized as I'd like it to be. It's going to be what I'm thinking about and working on, when it's happening. Because if I wait too long to make it fancy and how I think everyone would like to read it, it's not going to happen. Aint nobody got time for that. Except those bloggers. Because it's their job.
- I'm sorry if I ever say anything that offends or hurts you. I don't want to say I'll try to be sensitive, because I don't want to censor myself. I'll just try really hard to be a loving, considerate person and hope that covers it. I don't know that I'll ever get into topics that could be offensive, but I'll try not to be a big oaf if I do.
- I'm currently an English teacher. I've been an English teacher before. I think the English language (and the proper use of it) is a beautiful thing. That being said, I'm waking up early early every morning for that teaching gig, so forgive me if I have some mistakes. I'm tired. And although I'm pretty firm on dangling prepositions in formal writing, this is just me talking to ya'll, and they're going to be dangling sometimes.
- Most importantly, I hope some of my goals inspire you to set some of your own. I am a terrible procrastinator when it comes to my own progress. If I can do this (which I haven't proven I can yet, but I'm trying), anyone can do this. It might be totally vain, but I just hope anything I say can be helpful to anyone, really.
